The category
From a description, a document or a recording to a diagram
Four kinds of tool share this category. Generators turn typed text into a BPMN diagram, often through a short question-and-answer. Document and recording tools read a handbook, a transcript or an interview recording. Task-mining tools record what happens on the screen and map it. And two platform vendors offer an AI design step on the way into their own platform. What they have in common is that a model, not a person, draws the first version; what they differ in is the source, the output and the hosting.

Where in the lifecycle
What this category covers, and what patchley covers
A process lifecycle in eight stages. The first bar is a general statement about the category; the second is patchley: from capture to the hand-over as files, with running shown as the Executions pilot, in preparation. The hand-over is a file, not an integration.
Functions at a glance
What each tool states it does
One row per tool, patchley first as our own product. A mark says only what the vendor states on its own pages; a dash never means the tool lacks the function.

Where patchley fits
In this category, from the conversation
patchley is a vendor in this category, so read this as its own description. The source is the conversation with the people who run the process; the first draft forms while they talk and is corrected in the room.
When to use which
By source, output and where the data goes
Three questions sort this category faster than any feature list.
Where does the process knowledge sit?
In a document: a document tool. On the screens of people doing repetitive work: task mining. In the heads of the people who run it: an interview or workshop tool such as patchley. A short typed description: a generator.
What has to come out?
A BPMN 2.0 file for a modelling tool or a platform; a guide for new staff; an application design for one platform. The table's output column answers this per vendor.
Where may the data go?
Hosting and model providers differ in every row and are not always published. For interviews and handbooks that contain personal data, this question comes first; as general orientation, ask the vendor for the data location in writing.
The tools in this category agree on the goal, a diagram without drawing, and differ on the source; choose by where your process knowledge actually sits.
